In some treatment plans, Dr. Fricke will use orthodontic bands around molars to increase efficiency of care. In order to properly place these bands, our office makes use of separators, small plastic rings, to create space for the bands. Separators must remain between your teeth for approximately one week in order to serve their purpose. You will be asked not to chew gum while wearing separators. This will avoid pulling the separators out. Your teeth may be tender for 2 or 3 days and Advil or another pain reliever are recommended. Be sure to brush your separators when you brush your teeth. If your separators fall out, please call our office to have new ones placed. If they fall out 1 or 2 days before your next appointment, there is no need to replace them as they have done their job by creating space.
